Whether you’re a mama-to-be, have a friend/family member who is about to enter the world of parenthood for the first time or again, then we have to all agree that a Baby Shower is a fun way to celebrate. There’s nothing more special than having all your closest friends and family in a room together sharing your excitement for the new arrival. We have been a little slow in Ireland to jump on the baby shower bandwagon, but it’s becoming more and more popular of recent and, of course, who doesn’t love a party?
With all this in mind, I decided to throw a Baby Shower for one of my closest friends, who also happens to be married to my brother (the new Daddy-to-be of course). With her due date being so close to Halloween, it was easy to decide on the theme! I loved the idea of lots of “Little Pumpkins” scattered around the place, while also keeping it neutral with gold and white throughout since the gender is a surprise! So the planning process commenced and I needed lots of pumpkins…
For the venue, I was looking for something a little quirky where I could host an afternoon tea party. It needed it to be spacious, ideally open plan and with access to kitchen facilities. I opted for The Cabin in New Ross, on the grounds of Sweeney’s Garden Centre. It was a perfect space with adjoining kitchen, holding all the essential equipment needed, such as the cutest little English teacups which tied in perfectly. Becci was the coordinator of The Cabin and was amazing, she helped me set up on the day and provided me with anything additional that I needed.
With the venue booked, it was on to sourcing all the materials to make the place look like a wonderland of little pumpkins. To keep it all in line with the theme, I decided to do a little DIY project and purchase “quite a few” pumpkins which I picked up in Aldi. I sprayed them with white and gold paint and voilà, the look was complete! Excuse the DIY attire, rubber gloves and a mask are essential accessories for any DIY #ootd
I also ordered Baby Shower accessories from Bunjee.ie an online site of party supplies and gifts, who also happen to be very local. I got all my Balloons from Sarah in Bunjee who was such a great help throughout the whole process. She inflated the Larger Balloons and personalised them which brought the whole look together. Ollie was especially infatuated with the big confetti balloon, as was I, they were seriously massive, like 3ft wide.
Of course there couldn’t be afternoon tea without cake and cupcakes! Made to order from the wonderful Bridget from Bridget’s Sweet Boutique, honestly this lady would turn anything into a wonderful cake, there is nothing she can’t do, an amazing talent!
Also I had a fun idea to top it all off with a Nappy Cake, this was the best part! Another DIY notion that honestly, could of went either way really, but thankfully it actually turned out quite nice and was a fun addition. Best thing about a nappy cake is that Mama-to-be will get at least a few weeks supply of nappies out of it! It’s a great gift idea and so simple to make with a little time and a touch of imagination. All you need is nappies, some string, rubber bands, kitchen roll holder, cardboard, fairy lights (optional) and a pumpkin (also optional) and decorate to your taste.
So that’s it, “A Little Pumpkin Baby Shower”
My Mama-to-be was truly surprised and delighted with her evening and showered with lots of love, friendship and gifts for her new little addition. It was a wonderful way to finish off her pregnancy journey and hopefully help with being fully prepared for the next few weeks to come.
I’m so excited to meet the new addition to my family, and I’m sure he/she will be a cherished beautiful little pumpkin.
