Our Wedding
We got married in September 2014 in a villa in Andalucía, Spain. I remember how incredibly hot it was that day, unusually warm for that time of the year but we got what we asked for, Sun and lots of it.
Planning our wedding was all consuming for a year beforehand, I was obsessed with all the details and wanted it to be perfect. I researched Pinterest for months as I’m sure all brides to be, do. I had lots of ideas so our wedding planner was bombarded with emails of images and suggestions on how I wanted it to look. I suppose you could say I was in total Bridezilla mode.
Our decision to get married abroad wasn’t easy as you must take so many factors into consideration. To list a few which you really wouldn’t have to worry about at home; travel for Family and Friends, flights, recommending accommodation, places to eat, hairdressers and so on… We did have a wedding planner who had a lot of this information that we could share with our guests so that helped a lot. I can imagine it would be so much more stressful to try and do it all yourself, not to mention the amount of travelling over and back beforehand, this would be a total nightmare for me. Thankfully this element was taken out of the equation for us.
So, I decided on a Vintage theme, pastel colours with a lot of pale blue and creams. My bridesmaids worn pale blue dressed finished with dark blue lace to give it that vintage feel. These dresses were handmade by Brendan Byrne, dress designer. The dressing gowns on the morning of the wedding were from The Stone Cold Fox.
My husband wore a blue three-piece suit from Hugo Boss and the groomsmen wore cream suits from Zara with pale blue shirts.
Our flower girls and pageboys were just adorable, a lot of them I may add as I just couldn’t leave any of them out. I purchased the flower girl dresses on an Australian website; https://www.teaprincess.com.au/. They have the most amazing selection of pretty boho dresses for little girls, I just fell in love with them. Their garlands were all the way from Greece which I picked up on my travels. Our pageboy outfits where a mix and match of different brands, their granddad shirts were from Dunnes stores, shorts and loafers, Zara and I picked up the braces online from Amazon.
My Dress, I really didn’t know what to go for because there was so much choice. I fell in love with a Claire Pettibone dress and had it almost ordered until I came across my dress in a local store, so I just went for it. My headpiece was from a store in LA which I ordered online, I saw it on a bride in a Pinterest photo and just wanted it, I thought it was nice and simple as I’m not a fan of anything fussy in my hair. My shoes were Jimmy Choo and accessories where from my local jewellers which were quite understated.
It was a magical day and the memories will stay with me forever. The Ceremony was personal and intimate, each family member participated which made it very special. My nieces, brother in law and husband’s sisters all played instruments and sang.
The villa itself was so beautiful, the lights in the palm trees, the vintage outdoor seating area and at night changed into Moroccan style area so your guests could chill out and enjoy the party. I was bursting with ideas so decided to have a Sangria and Cigar bar. The kids also got Ice cream and sweets, so everyone had a little bit of something to enjoy.
I would most certainly do it all again if I could, it truly was one of my most memorable times in my life and not just the day the whole week. Having your Friends and Family there together to share it with us was most certainly the icing on the wedding cake!
